Wobbly Bits

Yesterday I final managed to get back to the gym. I usually try to go 3 times a week when not at work but haven't been since November!

Not really sure why it's been so long but I've had plenty of excuses - it's raining, my gym kit is in the bottom of the laundry bin ,it's too cold, I'm too busy etc etc.

Having eaten ( betwen us) 6 kilogrammes ( Yes 6!!) of chocolates over the festive period my jelly belly is even wobblier than normal. Then there has been the nibbles left over from Christmas - tubes of pringle crisps , peanuts, cheesey bits, Christmas cake , puddings and not forgetting tins of biscuits and the selection boxes.

You don't intentionally want to eat these things but we have tended to "graze" as the stuff is there. I don't have the heart to throw it away but wish it would disappear. We don't usually buy the kids sweets ( I'm a mean mother) and they never ask for them. Any sweets that they do get ( from parties etc) tend to hang around for ages in the bottom of the fridge. On a good note their teeth are filling free ( at the moment.

So, back to the gym - I managed to squeeze myself back into my outfit and wandered in. The gym was packed with new people who I didn't recognise obviously all on a New years resolution to get fit .

At one point I thought I was going to get banned from the gym as my heart rate used to " blow up the machines". I regularly got it to 200 beats a minute , felt absolutely fine and not out of breath at all. I ended up moaning to the gym manager about the machines alledging that they were faulty but it transpired that I had tachycardia ( following an ECG at the doctors)so these days I purposefully make sure I don't get it that high - a bit difficult when you stand on the machine to start at well over the normal rate.

I was actually quite pleased with myself - I started off rowing 2000m, then ran for 1 1/2 miles ( whilst chatting to a friend and still being able to breathe without oxygen!!), I then went on the stair walker for about 20 minutes and followed it with a 30 minute bike ride.

When I got off I suddenly thought - I'll regret this tomorrow when I can't walk !

I then went on to carry home my grocery shopping the 1 1/2 mile walk home ( up hill in the rain).

I got home thinking - right I'll have a huge drink of water and then have a light lunch and start off as I mean to go on.

Well I had my lunch and then found half a bag of peanuts, followed by 8 sweets from the sweety tin . By this time I'd gone off drinking half a gallon of water and thought I'll have a cup of tea instead - it was then that the biscuits called me.

By the time I had finished nibbling for no reason and I wished that I hadn't.I had started off with all good intentions for the healthier life style that I had decided to embark upon four hours earlier but temptation had got the better of me.

I don't really think I need to lose a huge amount of weight ( although I don't actually know what I weigh at the moment). I go by the kids method of " How many bellies one has when sitting down - or how tight my jeans feel - I just need to get a bit more toned up and lose some of my good old cellulite and excess flab but really would like to get fitter .

I don't particularly like running on a tread mill as I find it a bit monotonous but have always fancied having a go at a marathon ( way past my league of running though!!) however I got really put off when my friend recently did one and her toenails fell off afterwards - Yuk ! That really did it for me - no thanks - the belly can stay! Long live the belly.

YOU are the skinniest moo that I know !! and if you have eaten that many chocolates then you should be a whole lot fatter. Don't you go toning up too much, I don't want you to feel the need to sun bathe topless on our holiday!! Oh the shame !!
